COMPLEX ORTHODONTIC / SURGICAL CASE
In some cases, improper jaw alignment is the problem. Orthodontics alone
will not be sufficient for creating and maintaining a proper bite.
In this case, the patient required orthognathic surgery in order to
advance (move forward) her lower jaw (mandible).
All models, x-rays and related diagnostic studies were performed and utilized to maximize
the end result.
- First step is orthodontic therapy to align the teeth in their proper
position PRIOR to surgery.
- Second, after the teeth have been place in proper alignment, final
determinations for surgery are made.
- Third, surgery is performed.
- Fourth, minor orthodontics to make final adjustments.
Note how there is significant changes in facial profile post surgically.
This change can be determined before treatment utilizing "soft tissue"
projections.
